Differential Ok?

Hi everyone. First post so be gentle. My 94' calibra turbo recently developed a strange grumbling noise as i go around corners. seems to be coming from the rear suspension. had a quick check, didn't notice anything wrong, but spotted that both rear driveshafts have a left to right movement of about 10mm. there is no circular movement. Is my rear differential colapsing? or is this a standard tolerance?

Hi there, put the rear seats down and go for a drive, any sound from the back there should become a lot louder, maybe you can get more of a clue what it is.
not that common to have diff problems.. you can remove the cover plate and inspect fairly easily..
is it just left or just right, or both corners?

Cheers for the replys. Both shafts move about the same, around 10mm. Now that youve mantioned it, it does make sense to have some lee-way, to cope with the suspension movement. As for the grumbling noise, have got her booked in at garage on Friday. I look after her better than i do myself!! again cheers for the replys, think it's great that there is enthusiasts out there willing to help.
