Handbrake rod?
Does the handbrake rod that's under the car come apart from the handbrake lever that's inside the car?
The rod on mine is bent and I'm wondering wether it's worth replacing it, I've yet again tried adjusting the handbrake but the passenger side doesn't lock as much/at the same time as the drivers side, but if I use the adjuster it's too tight when the handbrake is off (it was hot this morning after a 4 mile run to work, gonna have to slacken it off before driving home).
God I HATE doing the handbrake, it should be so simple but I just can't get the balance right.

The rod doesn't seperate from the handbrake lever as it has a rivot of some kind hold it on. You could find someone that breaking a Cally and swap the complete assembly. Looks easy but time consuming due to having to remove parts to make access easy.
Have you checked that the operating cables are ok and one side not stretched.

They look OK as best I can tell with it on the car, any easy way to tell apart from taking the whole thing off? The cable itself is only a couple of years old and looks in good condition, plus the mounting point on the underbody is intact, I had it welded a few years ago as it was coming away from the floor.
