Would you go to a tyre depot for a brake job?
Just come in from chatting with a neighbour who owns an Astra 1.6 Auto ...he had a noise from the brakes while on holiday in Cheshire..local depot of major tyre fitter diagnosed front discs and pads.. >£200 later left depot but didn't notice that speedo had stopped working (! obviosuly has immunity from speed cameras)... Speedo failure is clearly unconnected with the brake job.. as the tyre depot kindly pointed out. Local Vaux dealer estimates >£300 for fitting new speedo sender into hub for passenger side and associated work/parts.
Obviously something the size and weight of a hammer was lying in the road outside the depot and somehow flicked up onto the brake area with the precision of a smart bomb going down a ventilator shaft.

Only reason i can think of for going to a tyre place for brakes is if KwikFit sold Mintex m1144 pads under their lifetime guarantee scheme lol

Dont recommend it either. Took my polo to quick fit and they damaged the electrical connection for the brake wear sensor. VW dealer wanted £250 to replace brake electrical loom.
