Guide bolts for calipers....snapped
Well I just replaced the pads guys.
I've got a safety question:
On the right side when I undid the guide bolts the thread just snapped, on both of them. The remaining thread is left on the inner caliper bit (dunno wat its called, the hub? It bolts onto the lower suspension arm).
I just took the car for steady test drive with the new pads, everything seems normal - no shuddering from 60mph.
This is purely temporary of course I'm going to order the part next week.
Will it be safe for a few days at least? While the pads are bedding in?
On another note - is it normal for the brake pedal to feel soft and spongy with the new pads. Is that what the bedding in process is?

no thats not normal, sounds like theres built up air in the brake pipes, did you bleed them?

i didn't nor - guess I'll have to do that when I change the hub bit. The fluid in the reservoir has remained at the same level so i duno if they need bleeding but i guess i will as a precaution.
my primary concern now is that floating caliper. i'm worried its gonna..........float away... without those guide bolts.

got a pic of the bolts youre missing? without sticking my head in the wheel i can't think how its bolted up. doesnt sound a good idea to me the only bolts i can think of are somewhat usefull...

im not to sure on the bolts (im sure someone will be able to tell you) every time you change the pads the brakes need bleeding

The calipers are held on with 2 bolts, thats all you need to undo to remove them and change the pads, not sure what you are refering too but if these are snapped I wouldnt drive it. You shouldnt need to bleed the brakes are changing the pads.

do not drive it if you are on about the two ten mill allen bolts 
and as for bleeding the system i do it every time but you dont hsve to.

Agreed...
Even if it's the 7mm caliper sliders or 10mm pad carrier bolts, park it up an order new ones...
Those four bolts on the front and your tyre contact patch are all that keep you out of the rear of the vehicle in front....

Dont confuse safety advice (which would save yours and other peoples lives) with someone having a go.

this is surely the making of one of those classic take the p!ss threads that spread around all the forums like wildfire where people weld there camshafts in place when they change a timing belt etc,
