Noise from Brakes

by Calibra_Mike » Sun Jun 06, 2010 9:40 pm

OK so I fitted new discs and pads yesterday, after taking it for a test drive the passanger side was making a horrific noise, got back and found that the dust cover plate behind the disc must have got knocked or bent and was rubbing on the disc, so bent it back out the way and took the car out again, all good, no bad noises and the brakes work fine... HOWEVER... today I was driving back from a mates when i noticed a slight squeak coming from the passanger side again also they are starting to squeal a bit when braking lightly but that goes if you plant ur foot down a bit more... I had another look and the dust plate is not touching and with the car jacked up and I spin the wheel it doesnt make any noise...

so what makes brakes squeal? and what can i do to shut the bloody things up...

yeah but I think I might put more on, just reading up online now about sqealing problems, says you might get some squeal noise because of the use of metal shavings in brake pads these days...

Make sure the sliding faces are clean too before you grease them up.
A good scratch with a screwdriver will do.

did you clean the discs with brake cleaner?? I know you proberbly have but you never know

I would take pads out, get your self some rough sand paper and give the pads surface a good going over ...take the shine off them and also do same the discs
