Clonking when braking hard
When I brake hard I get this clonk from the front of the car... only on the left hand side though...
Ive changed the lower suspension arms, anti roll bar links and have also put new discs and pads on the front recently...
anyone else ever had this problem, I remember having it on my old calibra and it seemed to go away after replacing most of the front suspension parts... the only thing I have left is the track ends to replace, they wouldn't cause that sort of noise would they? otherwise im thinking it could be something in the top mount of the suspension...

Yep had exactley the same prob, new wishbones cured it tho.
Ho did you fit the metal sleeves? and did you do the sub frame bolt up tight enough?

I think the bolts are done up tight enough, it only started doing this a few weeks ago and the wishbones have been on longer

Re: Clonking when braking hard
Again, how where the sleeves fitted..?
The correct way is to insert one of the sleeves into the top of the bush so its flush with it.
Then fit the arm, then insert the 2nd sleeve upwards through the subframe into the bush until its flush with the subframe.
That alone being done wrong can cause knocks

Re: Clonking when braking hard
yeah thats what I did cause it would go into place with both in at the same time...
IVe just been out and had another look over it, bolt wasn't loose but it wasn't done to the right setting, got the torque wrench out and cranked it up... took it out and seems to have stopped for now, noticed yet another bloody crack on my alloy though...
cheers for the advice...

Re: Clonking when braking hard
we'v found that you need to check your sub frame bolts a couple of weeks after fitting as they seem to work loose i now check mine as part of course i also use thread lock on them

Re: Clonking when braking hard
I had this, and it was a spring that was sat squint in the lower cup somehow, so i turned the spring so it fitted in its slot, and that cured that. Have a wee peek at that.
