Maxton Suspension for my Calibra 8V

Hi,

I use to be a member many many years back, until an accident put my car off the road. It is finally making a comeback!

As part of its resurrection I am looking to get a full suspensions kit.

I have found a full Maxton set for £165

Does anyone have any opinions on them? Or anyone know of anyone who is selling ?

You're better off going for some bilsteins or standard shorts are made by KYB at the end of the day you'll get what you pay for. I purchased some cheap unknown shocks from Germany and the lasted about 6 months. Go with something trusted and recommended by others, I'm sure someone else will be a long in a min to say something similar

I put on Apex springs and bilstein shocks but it was a hard ride.
So i've changed the front shocks back to standard and it's made
a big difference.

I found a GMax setup for 220, but I can get other combinations.

Does anyone have any opinions? I will be keeping the standard vauxhall alloys (15" 205 55 15). I don't really want to lower it. But the springs I am finding are lowered by 40 mm is this still going to be ok?

I dont mind a slightly firm ride, but nothing that will be shaking my fillings out.

My daily has Bilstiens, might swap them on to my 3.2 as I prefer the ride
The g- max kit was OK but the Bilstiens was a much more positive ride

that's because they are meant to be stiffer than standard, so you can go round corners better.....if we ever do another highland tour...you will see what a set of bilsteins can do round a corner

it all depends what you use your car for if its your daily and you just want a comfy rid i would just buy std ones but as said if you want to drive her a bit harder and have fun in and out the corners Billys are the ones iv got H&R springs on the v6 and ebac on the turbo and find both good

It will be my daily driver. So something relatively comfortable which is an improvement from the originals.

Are KYB the oem shocks and springs?

I don't mind the GMAX set up, as long as it isn't really harsh. As I said before I will be running the standard wheels.

I have decided just to go for OEM. From what the reviews seem to be the GMAX are pants and I am not really after a sporty ride.

total agree new stock suspension will be so nice and will handle 100 x better than 16 year old ones

wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the rear donut bushes on the rear subframe as well while your doing the springs and shocks. you'd be surprised how much of a difference they'll make in the handling of the car as well
