Rear numberplate panel fitting?

by MadOnVaux! » Sat Jun 04, 2011 5:22 pm

I have just been lucky enough to procure myself what seems to be the holy grail of Calibra mods, the rear numberplate panel!!! :)

However, I cant see any way of how it's supposed to be fixed to the car??

There is what looks like 2 holes for screws to go into but i'm not prepared to drill the bodywork at all, and the only other way i thought was to use double sided sticky foam strips?

I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give on fitting it :)

and no "Dont fit it and sell it to me" comments....well, not yet anyway, if i dont like the look of it fitted, it will be up for sale.

The original plate is fixed into what look like square 'raw plugs' (for want of a better word) I fixed mine with double sided sticky strips and used slightly longer screws, but used the yellow cap covers. BTW when you fit the plate lights into the new panel the light will shine out the bottom of it, so i wrapped mine in black tape..works a treat.

The point im making is, you dont need to drill anything.

Thanks callyman :)

I did get some numberplate lights with it actually, and wondered why the underneath had been (badly) sprayed black, now makes sense...although the heat off the bulb has split the lower part of the lights, i'm thinking thats due to the heat not being able to escape.....surely tape will burn??

Is there some special/specific numberplate lights that go in the rear panel with dark bases?? (Anyone with EPC might be able to have a look)

I'll update my profile thread with pics when fitted :)

The surround i bought has 2 pieces of black foam just under where the numberplate lamps go, and it stops the light from the lamps shining through the surround, they look to be factory....makes sense really.

Trial fitted it earier, see my profile thread, last post:

Very much a sought after item!

I'd certainly love to get one, but it's NOT likely to happen!

I suggest You use LED's to light up the Rear Number Plate!

You can get some that shoot the light upwards, plus they don't get hot!

See My Profile for Pics and links! ;)
