I doubt CD-RW will work. Most early players would not read those but would be happy with a CD-R.
Sounds like you have an old head unit. Decent ones don't cost a lot these days. I got a USB one with bluetooth for £120 a few years back. It was a Pioneer too so not a cheap brand. They are likely to be even cheaper now.
CD is awkward. USB & Bluetooth are much more portable. Either one will allow you to fit your music collection in your pocket. You couldn't do that with CD.

I may be old fashion but I like CD's as I like to read the booklets that come with them, mind you I'm still getting my head round the new head unit which seems to do everything but drive the car(Alpine CDE-136BT).

the thing is he wants to keep the car as standard as poss so putting a new head unit in it isnt an option,
im going to cut the audio on the out put of the cassette and connect a USB lead to that so i can use my phone but still have the my std headunit and cd changer but not have disc's jumping as i drive
