The Highland Tour 2010
The Highland Tour 2010
Since last years event was such a success we are going to be repeating it again this year.
Details are not fixed yet, but we are proposing this itinerary and using B&B’s rather than camping this year due to the distances
date are now fixed for weekend of 27th to the 29th August ......there is still time to come along
1. the first overnight stop will be at Glen Albyn Lodge Invergarry PH35 4HL
http://www.glenalbynlodge.co.uk/index.html
Double room with en-suite £32 £30
Double room Private bathroom £32 £30
Twin bedded with bathroom £30 £28
Family room(s)(*rooms adjoining) £30 £28
Single en-suite (double room) £60 £50
Single (shared bathroom) £45 £35
* 3 or 4 beds inclusive of full breakfast
Leave here in the morning we will make our way over to the Kyle of Lochalsh and then to the Applecross road, though we will only go to the view point at the top. Back down and from there people will be able to make their own choice as to which direction they wish to then go forward to the next B&B
The next B&B we are proposing is this Sharvedda, Strathy Point,Sutherland KW14 7RY http://www.sharvedda.co.uk/index.html
So you can go the up the West coast to Ullapool then onto Durness and right along the top of Scotland to the B&B, or cut over towards Inverness and go up the Middle
to B&B or just go right up the East coast, though your choices are limited to roughly 3 different routes after Applecross
continue heading up west on the A890 to Gorstan, there its either up the A835 to Ladmore and onto Ullapool, or at this point Take the A837 to Larig and up the A836 to Tongue and the along the top to B&B. or at Larig you can go over to the East coast A9 and then take the A897. There is also a few other routes using B roads but that’s the main routes
After an overnight stop at Strathy Point we will go to John O Groats and head down home using the A9 to Perth, there its easy enough to split to the west coast or continue home using the M90 and down the east coast
Overall the trip will be approximately 730 miles (going Ullapool Durness etc) first leg from say Hamilton services on M74 to Invergarry is 148 miles, next to Durness and the 2nd B&B is 274 miles and the 3rd 353 miles back to Hamilton services M74
This is the route on Google maps
link to google map of route one
link to google map of route two
link to google map of route three
or the east coast route
The dates are not yet fixed, but the weekend of 27th to the 29th August is what I was thinking as it’s a Bank holiday Monday for those down South that may wish to come along, this they will have a day to get back home and relax before going back to work.
So comments suggestions are welcome ..And also who would like to come along for our wee jaunt
