Engine Starter Button
Engine Starter Button
Right,
I want to do an Engine starter Button Mod!!
BUT i want to get rid of having a key completely (I have enough security to ensure the car will be ok)
No i can understand how to start the engine from the guide on here BUT how would i turn it off if i have no key!!!!
I was thinking a button to start and a button to stop if thats posible?
Cheers

Rob:
The guide you have read is about fitting a start button in conjuction with the key as well as you still have to tunr the key manually to position 2 of the barell then press the button.
But if you want to completely remove the barell all together, 1stly you need to remove the barell, which means you won't have any steering lock and there will be a hole where the barell used to sit.
Then what you do is to install 3 buttons( 2 flip switches and one push button). The flip switches you have to turn on in sequence so that the ignition is live, then you press the starter to start the engine.
To switch off you simply flip the two switches to off position and this will stop the car.
Your best bet is to buy a panel from motosport shops, then mount that in the centre console where your ashtray is. Thats what i have done to my car. I will try and see if i can find a pic of my car with the switches and post up here
Cheers

I don't have a wiring diagram as such. It really depends on what type of switch you go for, you can either get like mine which is a 3 switch figure or you can get 2 switch figure.
They all come with a std wiring diagram, which if you good with a multimetre then you won't have a problem with
However if you get it and still not clear, then drop me an email and i will send you more details about how to wire it up
top of my head by the way i think the switch panel was about £30 for this one.

Don't insurance companies get a bit worried when you take away the need to use a key?
Bear in mind to be able to cut the ignition circuit you would need a reasonably high current switch or a relay And that the present ignition switch disables all fans(Heater & radiator) during cranking.
Sounds like a good idea though.
