Home made Intercooler Spray.

Any electrical issues

Home made Intercooler Spray.

by gazcallyt » Sat Apr 16, 2005 4:07 pm

As previously posted I have blue petered a intercooler spray comprising of two washer jets, and old nova resevoir which is fired by a spa guage.
The resevoir is mounted alongside the battery and old intercooler, the jets are mounted either side of the intercooler, after putting it all together today, I have come across a couple of hitches, the first, the jets need to be swapped out for finer misty jets, which cars are the best to grab these off ??
The second is just plane stupid which I forgot all about, Gravity. Because the resevoir sits higher than the jets, the water just pishes out of the nozzles, any ideas how i can rectify this without moving the res, as its in a perfect place.

Cheers

for the nozzles what i did was get them from a garden centre.. the fine mist nozzles for their multifit garden watering hose/kit kinda stuff.. they mist nicely..

The nozzles will still drip, but not so much, but you need a restrictor in there of some form, one that will open under pump pressure.. i'm not sure if theres anything like that in the range for the above.. but worth a look while you're there.

so do you actually have a pump as such to push the water out? Like a windscreen washer pump? Is it what pushes the water out or does the spa guage do that?

Why do you get drips, why? If you using a motor, isn't that stop when there is no power to it?

Cheers

like most pumps for that sort of thing they still allow flow thru them while off.. the squirters are normally well above the tank so its not a problem

Yep got a pump connected on the resevoir, but like stu says the pump still allows water to pass through even though its not firing, and with the jets been lower, it just empties the res without any help.
Stu, have you got any pics of your setup, just to give us an idea what I am aiming at.

My whole cars stripped at the moment... i suspect you'll have it sorted before I get it anywhere near back together
I never did get it all properly installed..

if you cant find a restrictor of any form i guess the other somewhat bodge/ott way to do it would be with an electrical solenoid isolator that opens on the same supply as the pump.. but im sure thats not needed.. I'll keep my eyes open, possibly pop to the garden centre where i got the nozzles.

if you used a nozzle off an aerosol or small pump spray they take quite a pressure to spray through due to the tiny holes, they shouldnt drip.

If you mount the nozzles above the source of water then they won't drip.

Cheers Stu, just trawling the web to see if there is anything out there, come across some mist nozzles from a company in aus, but they want 15 squid for the privelege, I will keep looking.

Jay, could do with keeping the res where it is, next to the batt.
