Battery or Alternator?

by Peruzzi » Tue Jun 14, 2005 8:04 pm

My Cally takes a while to start sometimes.

In the mornings, and after a day at work, it usually takes a few seconds where the battery can be heard straining before itll start.

Its usually only after its been sat, so, over night, and after about 9 hours at work.

Is it the battery which needs replacing, or is the alternator on its way?

I do have subs and an amp in the boot, but I dont always turn them on. Would they be drawing enough current to be affecting me?

If you can get hold of a multimeter then you can easily check the voltage over the batter with the car running to test the alternator.
then you know if all is ok there, that you have a duff battery or a drain somewhere.

Test the battery and alternator? And if theyre both fine, its losing something inbetween? Or the amp is sucking it up!

Have you got a capacitor on your stereo?

These are renowned for draining the battery.

Ive no idea, it was all set up when I bought the car, and I dont know anything about it to check.
