Windows stuck!

by noelboy » Thu Jun 16, 2005 8:44 am

For some strange reason my drivers side windows has stopped moving..
It was playing up at the start of the week, I could sit stationary for 20 mins and sometimes it would go up and sometimes it wouldn't. When it did move it sounded fine. Now it won't budge at all.
Where should I start to try and find the problem?
I've checked the fuse.......

Remove the door card a check to see if you're getting power to the motor. If yes then you're motor needs changing, if no check the window switch.

I've got the card off but how do I get to them motor?
Also I've got a Toad AI606 alarm, has anyone heard of these interfering with the windows?

Some more details:

The lights on both switches light up.
The fuses are all ok
The wires from the Toad box are all secure

Im baffled because when the window does move the motor sounds fine and is pretty fast????

If the motor does work intermittently then its probably a loose wire somewhere.

That's what im banking on but I don't know where to start in tracing the wires.
I want to test the voltage on the motor plug but with the door card off I cant see a way to get to it.....It's behind the skin.
I dont have to drill the rivets out just to get to the plug do I?

Thats the only way to remove the motor, but a bit drastic. Can you not see any wires going towards the motor? You could check the colour of the wires using a Haynes manual and then check the wires where they enter the door, near the door hinge/pin. Sorry I can't help more.

My driver's side window did that when I first got the car, and it turned out to be the motor. to the tune of about 250 euros!

The other day, when the temperature hit over 30, my passenger window started acting up! I hope I don't have to change that one now.

I wonder if the motor for both sides is the same? Because only my drivers window has the one-touch feature. I wonder if it's possible to use a driver's side motor on the other one to function the same way....

The majority of the time it is the motor that is at fault. You should be able to get a decent replacement from a scrappers for around £20-30. You neede to drill the rivets out and rivet the new one in, the electrical plug on the back of the motor has a metal clip that needs to come off as well.

Does it have to be from a calibra? 'Cos not much chance finding one of those where im from.
