Anyone relocated battery to the boot?

Any electrical issues

Anyone relocated battery to the boot?

by Chavtastic » Sat Jul 02, 2005 1:52 pm

If so any advice or pictures?

Obviously I'll have to fuse the main power wire at both ends running through the car. I am using "0" gauge wire.

1. How would I earth the battery in the boot? Drill and tap a nice hole into the chassis? Or run a wire to the loom in the engine bay?

2. Any ideas on good places to get power splitters so I can join the loom into one single wire in the engine bay.

There's no obvious reason, but:

1. Space for water injection tank and other bits in engine bay
2. Better weight distribution (less weight in front!)

You could try earthing it on one of the rear seatbelt mounts?! Clean off the paint and sandwich it in between?? Gotta make sure the electrical continuity is there and good tho cos othewise you'll have all sorts of problems.....

Might be worth contacting retro cars magazine cos they did a guide to re-locating your battery to the boot a while ago. Alright it's for older cars and they might tell you to buy a back issue, but it'll be better than non-specific advice!!!

Just extend the power wire to the boot.

And place all of the earth to a clean point on the chasis in the engine bay.

Earth the battery in the boot as close as possible to where it is located.

Okay guys no problems.

As for fusing should I just have a couple of heavy duty fuses at each end of the power cable?

yes mate.

Just measure the full load current out put of the alternator and fuse it the next step higher.
One fuse in the engine bay will be sufficient.
