V6 alarm -do they have em?

by niggy0 » Thu Jul 14, 2005 4:36 pm

I have a 96 N reg 2.5 V6

THe thing that bothers me is there is no remote central on it nor is there an alarm system - is this correct - if not can anybody tell me where the bits will be hiding on the car, so I can check the previous owner hasn't relinquished them of there duties

Cheers peeps

have a look in the calibra v6 specifications bit and this should tell you all the info u need, and yes it should have a factory fitted alarm and imobiliser i think

To test it, when you lock the door right round to deadlock position, the red light should light above the passenger side door on the sensor should light for 30 seconds and then start flashing, if it flashes its armed
To set it off, pull the bonnet cable, leave the bonnet closed, lock the car up and wait for the light to flash (after 30 seconds), then open the bonnet, the alarm should sound, to turn it off unlock the drivers door

Robbie, you are mistaken. The immobiliser is in the ECU and deactivated when you start the ignition. There is chip in the Key which allows the Immobiliser to be deactivated and the receiver for the chip is around the ignition barrel. It's not the type of immobiliser that you deactivate by way of a key/button etc.

Sorry jay you are mistaken mate
Ive only got one key for the cally, and that key is a solid one no chip and before you ask no there is no chip tape to the ignition, i checked when i first got the car.

Robbie, something wrong there then mate especially as yours is a '96. It was standard fitment on V6's, even pre-facelift. it can be de-activated and that's what has probably been done with your car but it should have one. Wen you checked di you see the black ring around the ignition barrell?
