my steerings been really bad lately and getting worse , Ive noticed that when the car is idleing and not moving there's a rattle coming from behind the dash ( drivers side) , is there any bolts or screws behind there that ummm sort of hold the steering to the car?,

as u can tell in struggling to explain this one, lol,

the rattle isnt the normal dash noise its like metal hitting metal,

any info and pics on what to take off and look for will be greatly appricerated as i dont want me steering falling to bits when in doing some on the dual carrage way ,

thanks jay

I take it you have adjustable/tilting steering wheel column? I've never heard of the mechanism for this going wrong, but I'd guess it could well give the sort of symptoms you're describing?

I think the Haynes manual might have a 'blow-up' piccy of the adjustable column setup...?

I don't think any calibras come with a tiltable steering wheel. There are bolts that hold the steering column in place and if you can move your column up and down then its these bolts that have become loose. Unfortunately I'm not sure where exactly the bolts are.

Spot on, they removed the adjustable steering bit on any calibra fitted with an airbag coz otherwise the airbag could be tilted to an angle that would be dangerous instead of safe
