Maybe an electrical problem

Hi

I have the Ecotec engine in the calibra.

I am getting very annoyed and frustrated with my engine at the moment.

I have done the paper clip job and no errors show up. The ECU light only flashes the error 12 up which is normal (I think)

The ECU light shows up quite alot as soon as the car is started. If I turn the engine off and turn it back on very quick the light normally goes out.

However, from time to time while I drive the following happens....

The rev counter shoots way past the red-line and back again.
The ECU light then comes on
The car will then struggle and feels like the engine wants to rip out of the engine bay.
Sometimes the engine will stall while in movement which means the Power Steering turns off and you can't control lthe steering.

Any ideas?. It must be an electrical fault somewhere.

Thanks

James

try cleaning the electrical contact on the air flow mass meter, i had similar probs like that, just disconnect it and spray wd40 on the contact and give it a clean, that what was happening with mine and after i'd done that it was back to normal, and just check u have no air leaks behing the air flow meter

is that the order in which they would occur?
does the stalling happen when driving? or when you put the clutch in or the car is out of gear?
is it hot there at the moment?
does it happen more when the tank is half full and get progressively worse as the tank empties?
