*urgent* Alternator Fault Maybe

by Robert_Dale » Thu Aug 25, 2005 10:14 pm

Cheater, cheers for the advice but its still blowing the fuse

right symptoms:

Fuse number 2 keeps popping (speedo and cigerette fuse) this in turn causes the battery light to come on!!

this seems to happen when i rag the car (not reving but driving fast)!!

tried putting a 30amp fuse in (only one i had) and now the battery light is on constantly and seems to flutter a bit!!!! also the fuse gets REAL hot!!!

so the volt reader reads a steady 14volts or whatever and seems to be working ok.....now is the alternator knackered or could this be something else.

whats the best way to test.

16v Redtop L Reg

Cheers

mine blow when i was doing 1/4 miles sprints, in the rain, useing wipers, radio, heated windscreen etc.

it could be the alturnator, but im sure ATS etc can check this for free anyway to make sure its ok, or any good car electrition

Don't put in a bigger fuse, as this could lead to smoking wires / fire. Get your alternator checked out and take it from there.

if you start your engine and then disconnect the negative wire off the battery the car shouldnt die if the alternator is working.
just an easy test to see if its shot
