Jvc Ks-s6060

I've just replaced the crappy Goodmans unit that came with my Cally, with a JVC KD-S6060, but having a small problem.

How can I get the headunit to work without having the ignition on all the time/ also, the memory goes dead when the ignition is switched off. The Goodmans worked OK without the ignition on.
I've tried a bridge between the yellow and red wires and it works, but then the ignition is on without putting the key in!
I've also tried an Halfords adaptor, but it makes no difference - can't see how that "adapts" anything!
