Central Locking/Alarm probs

by clinty » Sat Sep 10, 2005 4:15 pm

I noticed yesterday morning that my central locking wasnt its usual selft I dont have remote locking and I turned the key to the far left to lock it but the key wouldnt come out properly!!! I eventualy got it out...however last night I noticed that the alarm dosent activate anymore when I lock the door...its a standard Calibra Alarm. Anyone any ideas as to what has happened? and how it can be fixed?

connections could have come off for the CL or alarm. take off door card and look behind the plastic cover. Try wd40 in the key hole, could be seizing up.

Definately have a look inside the door..

I had problems with my original locks/alarm a few years ago (delocked and remoted now), key used to get stuck / barrel wouldn't turn all the way and was iffy setting the alarm.
Turned out the 'dogleg' ring on the back of the barrel had broken in half (it's what sets the alarm when you turn the barrel/key). It was half moving with the momentum of the barrel sometimes and othertimes would get stuck, stopping me locking the car properly.
Relatively easy to fix once I'd spotted what was wrong, and I don't think the replacements were that expensive.

Did you get it sorted Clinty?

UndYinG, sounds like one of the central locking motors might be 'bouncing' when it's triggered by the system, they can start doing this when they're going/gone faulty. If it locks OK after you've manually locked the passenger door, then I'd start with that one. Alternatively you could disconnect them individually and see which one stops the problem happening.. just be careful not to lock yourself in/out of the car !

If its original alarm.. try to read out fault codes.. same as for ECU, but different pin on diagnostics plug (dont remember wich, but I can look it up if your are interested)

Leigh...Ive been a lazy bugger it kept locking so I didnt fix it  and thought ahhh sure I will leave it a while longer went and bought a full leather interior for the car and then on Wednesday morning I found turning the key a nightmare and then I heard a big clunk and something dropped to the bottom of the door, the lock still workng but when I fit the interior and take the door cards off (next week hopefully) I shall get to see what the problem is an get it sorted!!
