Cam shaft sensor
Once again the mang light is on & off again, & once again fault code 92 is coming up (what a suprise). We have had the car (ecotec 16v) approx 18 months & we have replaced this sensor at least twice now.
Are these sensors just rubbish (can you get better quality replacement sensors from any where?) or could it be the wiring? (but if it is the wiring why is the problem solved when the sensor is replaced?)
I am sure there are many of you out there who have had problems with this sensor. If the wiring needs to be replaced can this be done without buying a complete wiring loom, & if so what grade of wire to use as I have been told that if the wrong gauge of wire is used this can throw out the readings to the ecu.
Please can any one help us as I do not want to keep on replacing the sensor every six months.

I thought the new sensors came with a modified wiring harness to give a better shield grounding.
I had 3 camshaft sensors AND 3 crankshaft sensors in 2 years. Every time the problem would go away for a few months and then come back.
My only explanation was that a new sensor gave a stronger signal which would outway the interference, but as it starts to deteriorate the signal gets drowned out now and then by the interference.

genuine camshaft sensors come with a modified plug connector and about 6 inches of wire.
it amazes me that people do the "flash test" replace the "faulty" sensor with a cheap aftermarket one and then wonder why the light continues to come on after a couple of months.
get yourself down to a vx dealer, or at least a decent specialist who can clear any old stored codes in the ecu and then decide if the cam sensor needs replacing again.
sometimes it's best to bite the bullet and go to vx in the first instance. it may cost a bit more initially but it can save you a lot of hassle and money later. plus you get a national 12 month unlimited milage warranty.

Thanks for the info. Thankfully the parts place I use do look after me & I did not have to pay for my last CS replacement (plus they do give me trade prices). Half the time they do supply me with GM parts but obviously not on this occasion so if the problem persists I will buy a genuine part.
