v6 emlight
Need some help here, just changed my alternator after it packed up and now i have the em light on and car is in limp home mode. ive used the paperclip test to find fault codes and am getting code 16 (front knock sensor) whilst engine running. Also im getting code 73 if i let the test run without engine running (mass airflow meter low voltage) the faults are intermittent and every now and then the light goes out and the car comes back to life, but not for long. i know the v6 suffers with front knock sensor probs but there wasnt a problem before the alt packed up, seems too coincidental to me! could the alt have damaged these components when it packed up? as far as i know the battery is fine (12.5v on ignition) and the alt is ok now (14v running). got to get this sorted its doin my head in ;-(

I'd check your connectors are OK first off, front one's under the engine cover in the middle, back one clips into the Air intake duct (both redish coloured plugs if my memory serves me) and the cable for the rear one runs down somewhere near the alternator.
A knock sensor problem will send it into limp home mode, been there.... same sort of intermittent fault but i won't frighten you with how i fixed mine.....
I'm pretty sure the rear one runs round and into the same loom as the air intake sensors - from the sound of it, might be a good idea to check around here to.......

Andy SE9 V6
checked all connectors and all seem ok, gonna plug front sensor into rear sensor plug and see if fault code changes to 17 (rear knock sensor) if it does then its new sensor time, if not then its rewire time. cant understand why im getting code 73 on ignition tho - didnt get it before, does not show up when engine running so i spose its nothing
