Out in the car the other night, when to start the engine and the ECU light didnt come on so wouldnt start. ignition off and on still no light, tryed this a few times, knocked the ecu location still nothing, turned the key a few times and finally light came on engine started and no problems. again when i went to mcdonalds, had to walk home with the food.

Went back to the car key in light came on engine started. few days go by, so think it was a one off. go to KFC (i eat out a lot) parked up went in, come back, no light no engine start up. after 5 mins of turning ignition on and off light comes on engine springs into life. then yesterday outside the local tesco go in get dog food come back to the car, again no light, try ignition on, off, on, off. so decide to walk home then the ligh comes on when the ignition is tryed on last time away we go. so havent used the car since and dont really want to incase im miles away and it wont start.

By engine management light a mean the orange light with the picture of the engine on the lightin bolt in it.

Its a 1992 16v redtop. its done about 120000. but the engine was new so has only done about 90000. its driving me nuts as its my only car.

Sounds like the injection relay is duff. It's the one fitted close to the ecu in the drivers footwell.

When they die they tend to stick and cause all the symptons you've described.

Sounds about right, also check all the plugs around the ECU when you change the relay.

Fuel pump relay stops the ecu light coming on when its duff.
I think Iceman is talking about the same relay with a different name. fuel pump relay is the one by the ecu in the footwell
