> any thoughts?
You have an intermitant fault.
Its either
1) breaks/bad sheilding in the ECU loom itself.
2) bad connector/pin connections
3) very hot or cold on the sensors.
You could try running the engine (idel), have someone sit in the car looking at the ECU light (as its still on), your under the engine bay wiggling parts of the loom. If it goes out, your've found the problem. If it still dosn't do it, it may go when very cold or hot conditions. Intermtant faults are very difficult to solve. I doubt it will be the sensors.

> They have fitted a modifed camshaft sensor and loom
I have read a VX note about the ECU looms in Ecotec engines (not all of them, just a particular manufacture of year). The sheilding is bad, nothing wrong with the sensors etc. The sheilding in the loom is not terminated correctly at the ECU plug end. A compentant auto electriction should be able to find this lose shild wire and solder it to a good GND pin on the ECU plug somewhere and that should fix that fault. However VX never made this aware to the public and we're (the customers) are the ones who have to pay for their manufacture fault!
But glad its all fixed now (but it does sound expensive).
