<!--sizeo:2--><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->Hey guys,

Ive just noticed a quite large split in my offside front cv joint and there is grease all around the boot rubber and on the back of my wheel ,but also I have noticed that quite a few times there has been the odd klonk coming from that same wheel,Does anyone know much a cv joint rubber boot & maybe the cv joint itself is (not sure if the cv joint has gone as such yet)

Allways re-grease/boot a suspect joint before replacing, 95% of the time if its got a split boot and making a noise it will cure it.
I just did both my fronts, £4.76+vat each from a motor factors with a little parcel of CV grease and the required clips, however you can't use them without the propper crimping tool, strongish cable tie pulled tight with pliars does the job tho.

stu,

there is a suspect klonk coming from that wheel periodcly as well so could it be the whole cv or does the cv make a different noise to the klonk?

CV's make a rythmical knocking... clonks are more likely top strut mount bearings or shocks.

reason is because before if i go out and buy the cv joint i need to find out if its just the boot or both and get a local garage to fit it.

do it yourself man! just get the boot, only way the joint will be knackered is if youve ran a few k with no grease.

i did the boot on my primera and it took less than 10 mins, had a new kind where the boot had a little zip on the side so nowt had to be removed, brilliant idea

if you're that bothered, cut the cable tie, pull the boot back, slap it full of CV grease (buy from local motor factors under a tenner) blob it in well with a spatula or something. dry the boot around the split, use some gunwash/pre-paint wipe/meths whatever you have to clean it, then glue the split up, put boot back on new cable tie.. give it a few days see if noise goes. full lock low speed should make a bad joint clunk clunk clunk clunk clunk.

car parts direct do a little kit that will put a new boot on in a few minutes, u only need to jack up the car remove the old one. wipe the old grease off with a clean lint free rag. place the new boot over the shaft and glue with superglue. pack with grease and then tie wrap into place, its a ten minute job and all the instructions come the kit.

job done and easier than having the split the bottom arm apart and wrestle with the suspension.
