Take the shroud off from around the lock and check that the ignition pice is still firmly attached at the end of the barrel. When your trying to turn the key with the sterring lock on your are turning the wheel at the same time i take it.

stick a bit of graphite grease on the key and work it in

Had to change the ignition barrel on a nova cos the sterring lock had partly broken.
Just a though but if it doesn't come off with the key in the ignition, is there any chance of it coming on by itself whilst you're driving??

What do you mean buy wont disingage, you need to turn the weel a little as you turn the key normaly as the weight of the stearing will be holding the lock on like a brake. If you havent tryed it already try shacking the stearing as you turn the key next time it does it.

also try not to shake the weel to hard as vauxhalls have some anti theft thing witch will make the collem shear of and you will be left with a steering weel in your hands that is not attached to the car.

its the barrels, they are known to fail, graphite grease will help.

had a cav that just wouldnt turn at all, had to get the RAC to drill the bugger out.
