Does sound like the alternator, have you checked the wiring after fitting the new batt, could have a bad connection.

Ooh, talk about timing!
I got a phone call midday in work from our security (while I was stuck in some boring training session(), saying "your car alarm is going off" (I guess it pays to have the only calibra in the car park and be obsessed with it
When I got to the car the alarm had stopped. I suspected my disclok had slipped onto the horn (it sits really close to it, even sets the horn off sometimes when I'm close the door!), hence setting the alarm off.
Got in, tried the horn......dead.hmm...... checked the fuse , it's blown.
No prob, took heated seats fuse out (which I'm pretty sure is the same for cig lighter?) put it in horn slot, pushed horn .....<click> heard the fuse pop.
Started the car no problem, no dash lights on the right hand side apart from the batt light glowing (no headlights , ABS lights etc), and batt gauge showing 0!
Also, the fuel gauge stopped working , and the 'Range' on fuel comp hadf 'F' (probably cos no signal...but when I was driving it shot up on the fuel comp to 350 odd miles (only got about 90miles worth in the tank at the mo)

Haven't got any more spare 10A fuses in the box..I'll pop past Halfrauds on the way home and get some more spare fuses,
Fingers crossed I hope it's just the cig lighter one gone bad or something.
Anyone think of anything else off the top of the head? (I jump started a mates cally on friday a couple of times during the day, but car was fine all w/end, was careful to follow the correct sequence for the leads, hope mate didn't rev his car when it started and fry mine!)
Had to happen the day before I go on holiday didn't it !!

Done! replaced the fag lighter fuse on the way home from work and now got a working dash, no glowing batt light (I'm a bit relieved to say the least that it's not a fux0re alternator)
Now I need to find out why the horn blows its fuse immediately when I try it

the only way that you can get the engine speed is to have a strobe timing light my mate proved how inaccurate the rev counter is.
