New suspension! Please help!!!

by tsdinos » Tue May 23, 2006 8:18 pm

At last! The semester is almost over and the summer is only 2 weeks away!!! :icon_mrgr

This year thanks to my beloved little daihatsu sirion i brought from greece..
(apart from sto tw...s that found it amusing to brake my mirror and twist my antenna) i had...

-Less petrol expenses (due to its tiny 1 litre engine)
-No road tax to pay! (my father sorts these things out from greece)
-No MOT
-No frequently visits to garages (japanese reliability!)
-(And best of all) No ridiculsly overpriced insurance!!!

which left me with some extra money to spend on.....

my cally of course!!!!! :icon_mrgr :icon_mrgr

As my calibra had an almost complete engine rebuild this year in greece, i thought to buy her a new suspension and also lower it a couple of inches as now her handling feels more like a fishing boat!
The thing is that as I'm not a really car expert (yet  )
I really need your advice on which suspension should I look.
My friends told me to look for these brands :
KW,Leda,Bilstein,Apex...
I dont think that my ecotec will need a top performance one, but what do you think i can get on a price range between £300-£600??

Any advice is welcome!

the koni kit should be the same as the 4x4 as the increased weight of the engine

there is people on mig with the kw stuff and finding the finish not upto uk winter roads, the best bit about kw is the koni inserts and i wouldn't bother with coilovers too expensive for something that does the same as a normal fast road kit

Sorry for my ignorance but what is the difference between the coilover and the suspension kit?? Is the only difference that the coilovers are adjustable suspension or is it sth more?

I really started to think about koni now! Is there any paricular model and/or a website with a descent price on them?
My friends also told me to consider the greek roads as they are a bit bumpy and im afraid they might be to bumpy for a quite hard suspension.
Also I'm thinking to lower it around 30mm.
Has anyone got any picture of a calibra lowered this much?

Thanx for ur help!

coilovers will not be up to your roads i wouldnt use them on mine

coilovers are great for race tracks and thats about it. average cost is £1200 and very hard to setup with out corner weights

koni kit go for just get the springs mines lowered 35mm and i wouldnt go any further.

Actually this is what i'm thinking now. The koni SSK. At the moment im trying to match te prices with some greek garages to see if i can find it any cheaper there. At least the fitting is quite cheaper there. Do you know if the koni uses nitrogen like the KW? i heard some good words about nitrogen on suspensions

the top spec kw uses koni inserts.

koni really does soak all but the harshest of bumps

hmm, "top spec" meaning kw coilovers var 3? because on their site there's only var 1 and 2 for the calibra :/
