Trip computer average speed

by fraggie » Sun May 28, 2006 3:18 pm

hi guys dad took me out for a run in the cally yesterday and was fiddling around with the trip computer and found that the average speed is a bit funny

It always starts at 0m/h even if you reset it whilst travelling at 70mph and only goes up 1 mph every few seconds.

Ive heard that the computer gets the speed from the abs sensor so you reckon that might be borked?

Cheers for any help

It averages over quite a few miles if I remember correctly, so it might not just jump to whatever your current speed is after resetting it.

My average MPH and MPG always stay the same!...the clock, temp, stop watch and mile left in tank seem to be the only ones working properly?

If i reset the avg speed while moving, it stays blank for a while then shows what speed i'm currently doing (within reason. It's usually a couple of MPH different cos my speedo is still cable drive not electronic).

Try re-setting them. The avg mpg will move around quite a bit for the first few days (depending on what kind of driving you're doing town/motorway etc) till it settles down.

I do approx 300 miles of motorway driving every other weekend plus round town stuff in between and my avg hovers between 35 and 35.5!!

Mines out by a factor of about 2. Means that on a good run you can get an average speed of 130mph on the motorway or 60 around/outside town
