First check the easy end of the speedo drive cable where it goes into the gearbox. If it looks ok there then your going to be looking at the back of the instrument cluster.
If you need advice to remove the cluster just say and I can post full instructions of how to do it with minimum fuss.
Hopefully it will just be a case of the drive popping out of the back of the cluster and only needs clipping back in. Worst case is a new speedo cable. Pretty cheap to buy and not too long to fit. Just remove some trim and folow the old one

Ian what year is your v6 as its probably electric rather than a cable as such.

without going out with a flashlight, iirc the cable is mounted on the top of the gearbox and at the back, but dont quote me as its 11 pm, and i have had a couple, its dark, its raining and i am tired. Pretty certain you dont have to get under the car to do any work on the speedo cable. You might be on ya knees in the footwell tho if you need to route a new one in. Theres not a lot of room to play in down there.

edit. Good point Tim, never even crossed my mind bout the electronic. Senders mounted on the side of the box right?

Will be an electric speedo then. Doubt its fuses if the rev counter is working. Have you had the speedo out for any reason ??
