What's the problem?

If you need to get the inner cable out but the outer cable is OK then you can unscrew the cable end from the gearbox and with a bit of a tug the inner will come out with a small nylon bush.

If the inner had broken you may need to remove the speedo (do a search in here) and pull the other end.

my cable had broken and I found it much easier replacing the inner only

if the speedo's working ok leave it. they are pretty rigid so i doubt it'll fall off if not fully clipped in

To remove an instrument cluster.
Take off the steering column cowel top and bottem (top screws under covers behind wheel...spin it right and left 90 degrees). Take out bottem trim from cluster, you may need to prize it out with a flatblade, but its fairly flexable. Once removed you can get to the screws holding the top trim...2 by the heater control and 2 by the light switch pack. Once removed you can get to the screws holding the instrument cluster. You might find it easier to also remove the light switch. Behind the switch is a double rectangular recess for the light switch pin bushing. You can safely remove that "cardboard" piece inbetween the switch recess and it will open up a gap big enought to stick ya hand through. You can feel the clip holding the cable. It pushes down to release. To lock the cable in just push it in hard. There are 2 electrical connections. They are held by clips on either end. Push the clips in to release. If you wish to remove the cluster while the cable is off pull it forward and tilt either left or right. Makes changing bulbs to LED's and fitting bezels simple work.
Refit is reverse of removal.
