Clicking noise coming from engine

by ross85 » Wed Jun 28, 2006 9:07 pm

Nearly everytime I close or open the throttle I can hear a clicking sound - I've put it in electrical because it sounds a lot like the two clicks you hear when you turn the ignition on - or an indicator lol.
Will it just be a case of something sticking and needing WD40 or something more sinister? Its one problem after another since I said I might sell it, how does it know?!

open the bonnet and have a listen around the throttle body area while u rev up and down using the cable. there may be grime causing the throttle body fin to catch on the lower edge. if its that just strip it out and use some degreaser or carb cleaner to remove the grime, and refit. handy enough job. shouldnt take anymore than half an hour. most of the nuts are 10mm and philips head screws on the hose clips if i remember correctly.

yeah, could be few diff things, get a mate to listen with the engine off.. see if you can hear where the noise is coming from, pedel box area or throttle body in the bay etc.

Just got back from buying some carb cleaner and I think its the indicator flasher. Had a play with the engine on and off and the clicking/ticking doesn't sound that well connected to the revs. I also noticed the ticking from the indicators when you have them on is a lot quieter than normal so will it be a dodgy relay/flasher unit or something? Don't know much in this area :|

Would it be worth replacing 34?

not unless your indicators arent working??? if one of the bulbs is blown the indicator will flash a lot quicker. maybe thats what your on about???

Nah the indicators flash fine and steady, it's just that instead of making the ticking telltale noise when they're on, they just randomly click while I'm driving. But I took the above relay out to make a note of the part number, put it back in and now its working fine??? lol. Will be doing just over 100 miles tonight so will have to wait and see if its ok.
