ABS fault
i no its a long shot but is there any way the tyres/wheels would affect the ABS. i ask because my ABS light comes on and stays on only when the car is moving, not when its started and sitting idle. i get vibrating through the car due to 1 of the tyres being a re-mould (which also has a slow puncture) and possibly very little tread left on the rest of the tyres too. so was wondering if this or possibly the balancing could be throwing 1 or more of the sensors out because the wheels are not rotating properly. like i said, i no its a long shot but thought i would ask before changing all the sensors, pads, discs etc

no fault codes come up as the car is fine stationary and its not storing whatever fault it is

thats gonna be easy as it gotta be the module it self, i know slinter had probs with his and the module was the problem. i seem to remember that no fault code is stored as its the brain thats fubar'd
altough someone will correct me if i am wrong
how soon after moving the car does the light come on is it almost immediately because if that is the case we can work together to come up with a solution

Well when you move and the light comes on, then this stores the code. So read the codes and there will be a code.
The wheels and ... don't affect the ABS. The symptoms you are describing, suggests a faulty/dirty wheel sensor. As when stationary the ABS check is done and no problem, but as soon as you move, then the abs doesn;t get any readings from one or more wheels and it disengages.
mine used to do that. When you move, and you press the pedal, you feel the ABS kicking in even though you are not going that fast and stopping that quick.
Read the codes and bet you its a wheel sensor.
Cheers

there are no codes when you do the fault code test, which i have done many times to fix the alarm and other things. yeh its pretty much as soon as you start to move the light comes on. i have never had the ABS working since i bought the car (which had no battery and was towed home so didnt no it didnt work, but was cheap), i have cleaned all the sensors and it makes no difference at all, i have even done what was earlier suggested on a previous thread by jacking the car up and spinning each wheel to see if a wheel turns the light on, and nothing

I don't think the ABS works in reverse. Or it is because you are not going above a certain speed?!!!
It is very strange if it doesn't store a code, because as soon as the light comes on, it should do it.
One way of checking is to as suggested jack up the wheel individually. Disconnect the ABS sensor from the plug, then put a mutimeter across the contacts and set to read resistance. Then rotate the wheel and see if it changes. Check all 4 and they should almost do the same readings when the wheel is moving. I am 90% sure it will be sensor related.

The ABS isn't supposed to work below 10mph, it does more checks once you get over that speed. If the fault comes on once you're moving it's more than likely to be a sensor. The older ABS system on these didn't log codes AFAIK - but any bet is it's either a dodgy sensor, or dirty toothed ring, or a missing tooth. Try cleaning up the teeth too.
