V6 coil pack query

by Tim2001 » Mon Jul 03, 2006 8:15 pm

is there any sensor that would shut down part of the coil pack. Have had a few problems and diagnosed the coil pack as the problem as only running on 2 cylinders. New coil pack from vx today and still not running right as the two cylinders fed by the single coil at the end of the pack are receiving no spark. the leads are fine as have switched them round and checked that. There is just no spark coming from the coil pack.

Is there anything else to check before making the assumption that the coil pack is a duff one from vauxhall.

Tim, what you have to do is to put a DMM on the pins of the coil pack. Or even better if you have a scope. This is to see:

1) you get a permanent 12v to the coil pack when the engine is not running.
2) When you crank or the engine runnig, you should see the voltage dropping to zero( spark) and then back up again.

If you get this, then the coil pack is faulty.

The only thing that sends the singal to the coil pack is the ECU and it gets its info from the crank sensor.

Hope this helps

I don't think you can test the amplifier. You can just replace it.

HOWEVER I didn't realise you had a amplifier when you have a coil pack. I thought the coil pack had an amplifier in it already built?!!!

would need to get a hold of Aldo as I am not exactly sure what It was they changed...they told Aldo a ignition Module down on the wing IIRC ...only thing I can think of is an amplifier

might be wrong and I am given you duff information..will call him tomorrow and get the part number of what it was they changed..cost was about £60 for the part
