Electric Window Problem
Electric Window Problem
I have got an odd problem. For some reason, suddenly I can only open or clode the windows if one of the doors is open!!!
Anyone come across this before? Any clues?
Ant pointers will be appreciated.

Hello.
My driver side window has done this sometimes. When the door is open the electric window might work but when the door is closed, nothing happens when you push the button. I know that the window motor is ok. If there's some kind of solution to this problem, i would be very happy. And if there is, what are the places to find the faulty part or something.
btw. we have left hand drive cars here in Finland.
Danke. Thanks. Cheers.

I have that strange little button next to the window buttons. How can i get that large cable off? I mean the "main" cable on my door. Should i just pull it off?
This is a strange fault. The electric window works sometimes when i open the door, but when i slowly close it, there is this one point where it stops working. Door doesn't have to be closed completely.. I hope you understand what i mean
btw. There's light on the both buttons. And the passenger side window works like a dream.

(ikledud)

no mine just has the two window switches in it m8 strange thing is im pretty sure it only works if i open the drivers door ????? really havnt got a clue about this one lol
The early and late model switches still have the same insides (the early one has a bounceback override button too). Basically it looks like the little circuit for auto close, and power to windows after ignition off, thatsbuilt into the switch is solely responsible for the supply of electricity to the swiches.
Investigation
[*]Take the switch unit out of the centre console and unplug it (2 plugs).
[*]Now, armyourself with a mulitmeter and wiring diagram.

[*]With the ignition off checking the vehicle side of the plug, set the multimeter to DC volts and check for 12v on the red wire, OK?

[*]Yes - Fuse 30 and wire OK, fault elsewhere.
[*]No - if your windows still wind ok from the key or with the door open (obviously when the switch is installed) the wire from the fuse to the switch is knackered. If widows dont wind, F30 blwn.

[*]Now with the ignition off check for 12 v on the black wire, should be 0v, now switch the ignition on, should be 12v. OK?

[*]Yes, Fuse 12 and wiring OK.
[*]No, Either Fuse 12 or wiring knackered.

[*]Passing Tests 3 and 4 prove the 12v supply and wiring is OK.

[*]Now set the multimeter to Ohms, and connect its black lead to a good earth. Put the red lead onto the black wire in the plug, you should get less than 3 ohms, a little more is acceptable, loads more is not. OK?
[*]Yes, The switch control circuit ground wire is ok.
[*]No, the ground wire is knackered.

Conclusion
If all the above tests pass the fault has to lie within the switch, you know the grey/white wire and the grey wire are OK as the door switches activate the window. You also know that the window switch wires are OK as you have used them to open the windows. Replace the switch Unit.
I the above all goes wrong let me know what you got and I'll try to advise further.
