V6 EML Annoying Now

Any electrical issues

by C411BRA » Fri Aug 11, 2006 6:07 pm

Today I spoke to the bloke who does V6 corsa conversions at power crazy motorsport.

Apparently, the bottom right corner of the windscreen is difficult to seal when a windscreen has been replaced (mine has) and it seeps water very slowly, and it can run down the loom into the ECU, corroding the inside of the plug or the ECU itself. Anyone else heared this or similar?

Guess what tonights job is?

Got the ECU out, checked the plug and socket - no corrosion and dry as a bone. Checked the wiring from both knock sensors to ECU plug, and to earth. Got 10ohms on the shared ground to earth (grounds via MAF sensor). No shorts to earth, no resistance on the wires themselves.

So it should work. But, it doesnt.

After I put the ECU back in, no fault untill i took it for a test drive, and as I pulld away it again failed when I hit 3-4000rpm, and it was a gentle start on flat ground.

As a last ditch, tomorrow I am going to swap the sensors front to back, to see if it makes any difference.

If all is still bad, does anyone in the Lincoln area have a V6 manual ecu (pre-keycode model NP) I can slave in to see if it cures the problem.

Right, I swapped the knock sensors over last night. Heres what I came up with:

Before swap over i got:
Fault 16 (supposed front knock sensor)

After swap over
Fault 17 (supposed rear knock sensor)

then I disconnected the front one and got:
Fault 17

then I reconnected the front one and disconnected the back one and got:
Fault 16 and 17

I think this is telling me that the front is actually the rear and the rear is actually the front? Now before all this started happening, the fault was originally on the supposed back one so I swapped them over and it transferred to the front.

So i replaced the front one twice with no luck, and thats where this thread started. So I reckon when I swapped them over the very first time it was the front one that was actually broken, I put it on the back and replaced the front one.

If anyone can make head or tail of this post, you deserve a medal. I'm really fuddled about it. But if anyone comes up with the same answer to my problem I think I'll replace the front one (now I am in the original electrical state) which uis the one I should have replaced in the first place.:frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

The last alarm bell started ringing when I looked at either the topbuzz or calibrav6 as its got the pinouts wrong for the knock sensors.

i know how confusing it can get, especially when you get the wrong info from the start. confused myself a bit when it happened to me, both topbuzz and calibrav6 are very good sites but are not infallable.

posted this on mig - but i have *exactly* the same problem - (well ok not quite - mine sometimes clears itself for a few minutes of joyous driving!)

i have a fault 17 and i've tracked it down to the front not back

i'm told the wiring that goes from plug on top of engine backwards can be at fault

Great news on fixing it - what did it finally take to get it sorted?

If you go back about 5 or 6 posts you can see the diagnostic route I took. In fact the whole of this thread does.
