Un even brake wear

by andyla59 » Tue Aug 29, 2006 5:34 pm

Hi can anyone help?
I have just changed my front discs and pads on my V6 Calibra and i have noticed after only about 20 miles they are not wearing correctly. The outside of the disc is wearing but as it gets closer to the hub it isnt i took the pads off and noticed only half of them were worn. But on the reverse of the disc they are wearing fine. Ive had them off twice cleaned everything up made sure they are back togther ok but they still are not wearing correctly!

shouldnt it take a couple hundred miles to break them in properly? did u get any grease or oil on the pads or discs when u were changing them?

It takes more than 20 miles for new pads to bed in. If the pads are locating properly in the caliper, and they are the correct pads for the application, i would check them again after about 100 miles of light pressure braking:)

No didnt get any oil on them as i cleaned it all down when i finished the way i can tell they are not wearing right is i wased the car afterwards and you know how you get a fine layer of oxide where the water has been on the discs well half has come of and half hasent on both front discs

Are the discs/pads Vx or another manufacturer? I really think you should put some more miles on them before you start worrying mate:)

Their EBC discs and pads same as what i had on in the first place might try a diffrent set of pads and see what happens

Certainly need to put at least 200 miles on before deciding if wear is uneven. they are still bedding in. Drive cautiously and dont brake too hard.
