anti roll bar link help

by Cozy » Sun Sep 03, 2006 1:03 pm

taken wheel off looking to replace the anti roll bar link but after having a look it seems to be fine, so i am sumwhat puzzled as to what the noise is then it is a sort of metalic noise like something is rattleing about going over speed humps etc and the most obvious answer would of been the anti roll bar link

here are a couple of pics of the existing anti roll bar link does this look ok to everyone as there doesn't seem to be any play there, all stiff and tight and it doesn't look like it has snapped, where do they usually snap on the threaded bit

any ideas anyone, have looked at the other bits and everything seems fine and its deffo on passenger side

I would check the condition of the other two wishbone bushes, particularly the rear one as they do lots of flexing.

just got it up on the ramps and had a look underneath, doesn't look like the bushes have snapped or anything like that, there was a little movement in the passenger side strut on the turret in the engine bay so will tighten that up tonight and see if it's that but i can't see it being that, failing that it could be the caliper but i doubt that either, have checked both anti roll bar links and they are tight with no movement so will give the strut a tighten tonight and see if that resolves it if not i'm at a loss as to what it is

something has deffo snapped as when it did it i was reversing on full lock and i heard something metallic snap i think anyway, oh well will have to have another look if it isn't that

could be in the CV joint, the metal doobrey (technical term!) that holds the balls in place

or ..... if you breaked quite hard it might just be movement on the caliper as its designed more to take breaking force the other way

i will have a look at the caliper tonight, don't think its a broken spring as it looks ok and it bounces fine, just that it did it on full lock while i was reversing and had been having a bit of a clunk round that area (while reversing on full lock) before i heard something snap then its a rattling metal sound over bumps etc, getting me stumped now as the obvious would of been the anti roll bar link but both are intact

hmmmm

did you check the tie rod ends? also could be your wheel bearing. try jacking the car up and tugging at the wheel

sorry to hijack your thread! but..

one of my links has snapped and the bushes are stuff aswell is it best to replace the whole arm or just the bushes and link, the arm looks fine with hardly any rust. where would be the best place to buy, price etc? thanks:)
