Funky sounds

I braked very hard tonight and felt the abs kick in the only problem is that i felt the brake pedal vibrate, i think thats normal but it was the sound it made, it was like a thumping noise is this normal.

I would concur, that it is indeed just normal ABS operation. I drive many different cars on a regular basis and on all of the cars I have driven, when the ABS has kicked in, the pedal vibrates very rapidly (pumping of brakes to stop locking) and or knocking noise; I think this is just the mechanical operations taking place. Oh and by the way I absolutely shat myself the first time i experienced ABS, i thought i had something stuck under the pedal.

The worst experience I had was, when I had being driving cars with ABS for about a year. Then I got into a 51 plate Micra, driving along, (OK I was speeding ever so slightly) and a new driver (green plate) decided he/she would reverse out of thier drive at me! So I did the natural thing of brake and swerve, only 51 plate micras dont have ABS apparently! And let me tell you heading towards someones garden wall at 50 MPH and not being able to steer is pretty scary.

First time the abs kicks in on a calibra it will scare the crap out of people who are not expecting it. Thumping noise and hard vibration are par for the course.

1st time i had the ABS come in on a calibra was in my 1st turbo, i had hit a deer and was driving away from the scene, with loads of warning lights and no coolent left lol, a pub loomed out of the darkness (only 1 headlight working) so i hit the anchors and turned in ABS came on (great so it works after the accident) lol

had it with a vectra and various other cars now, you get used to it after the 1st time

Since then i have gone out on a quite road and tried it again it does work proberly and it was just the feel and noise that scared me the first time never had a car with abs before lol
