non calibra startin, cutting out prob

Our other car, 1997 1.1 saxo. has had a intermittant problem with starting. 9 out of 10 times u'd start the car with no problems. the other time it just wont turn over, come back half an hour later and it starts fine again. same thing will always happen if trying to start the car with the lights on. fitted new pos and neg terminals and a new earth strap. solved the issue for about a month, however its now back not starting with the lights on (havent had the intermittant starting issue yet)

this morning, missus was driving and 2-3 times the car cut out while she was changing down gears taking bends/roundabouts. not a nice thing to happen to anyone but she's a novice driver and depends on the car to travel every day. drove back there a while ago and no problem wotsoever.

battery is about 1 year old (although was drained a couple of times as the car was sitting for a few months).

had similar problem with it cutting out on bends/changing down gear about 3 years ago which was solved by fitting a 2nd hand alternator.

used multimeter:

engine off - 12.68
engine idling - 13.97 up to around 14.05
ranged anywhere from about 13.6 with lights on down to 13.1 with everything i cud think of turned on

any ideas? alternator on its way out again or battery fubared? or something else altogether?

i agree ... check all connections are clean & good , not forgetting the engine earth strap...... other than that you could be looking for a broken wire ...:frown: ..which could take a while to find ... good luck
