Help - car pulling to the left severely

by Cozy » Mon Sep 18, 2006 10:00 am

right had this problem with the suspension and have not found out what is wrong yet, but now it has got worse the car is pulling to the left badly, this is happening at 5mph if i let go of the steering wheel it starts pulling to the left and the steering wheel is moving in small notches to the left everytime the wheel rotates i think, have checked all bolts are tight, both tyres have even pressure so it has to be something mechanical

any idea's, have checked anti roll bar links both are fine, and incase u haven't read the other threads on this basically what happened one day i was reversing on full lock and something metallic sounded like it snapped, and i have a metaliic sound coming from the passenger side front wheel over speedbumps and potholes, i'm getting scared to drive it it's that bad at the moment

any help much appreciated

with the wheel central do the wheels point forwards? could be a loose trackrod end.

jack both sides up, make sure the brakes arnt seized on either side.

Mine did that and it was the tracking as mentioned above.

Just an idea but the snappping sound could have been your anti-roll bar to wishbone joint....cheap to buy and fairly easy to change.

Another item that could cause the pulling to one side as the wheel rotates is a seized or seizing cv joint....mine did this.

well took it into kwik fit (i know) but they were helpful and got it up on the ramps, had a good look underneath it and it's deffo not the anti roll bar link, there was a little play on the passenger side rear bush of the wishbone, checked a few other things but only thing that had any play in it was the rear bush of the wishbone, so i reckon first point might be best to replace the wishbone then go from there, like u said phil it could be the cv joint, just wanna find out what the hell it is as i can't keep driving it like this

the metallic sound seems to have stopped or at least quietend down since it started pulling to the left too

stupink, i put the wheel central and both are pointing straight, will jack both sides up and check that the brakes aren't sticking on the passenger side, i take it by that u mean jack it up then spin the wheels to see if they are going round without resistance

really has got me stumped this

one thing after another lol

keep em coming

kind of solved it, little embarresed lol, took the wheel off again to have a look at the suspension again, i'm sure there is still something wrong with the suspension but i had a slow puncture on the tyre so thought best check the tyre and low and behold there was a gi-normas bulge on the inside of the tyre which is why it was pulling me to the left all the time, every roatation was sending me left and it was cause of this bulge, and also the metalic sound that was happening has somehow dissapeared

so replaced the tyre today and its driving fine now

but i am sure there is still something wrong with the suspension as i am getting a grinding / rubbing noise when reversing on full lock so will have to have a look into that, oh well at least now i'm not going to have a blow out on the motorway at 70mph

cheers for the help so far, i'm sure i will be asking some more questions soon lol

shame kwik fit didn't see the bulge in the wheel, but as they say you can't get better than a kwik fit fitter.

Grinding noise when reversing on lock is normally CV mate.

we've got a similar problem and it's the rear bush on the bottom arm, clunk's when we fully lock or go over bumps and stuff

The shaking could be a number of things but have you had the balance checked? Also, make sure the wheels have spigot rings (it has been known on here for people not to have them at all), or if there are spigot rings present, make sure they are the right size.
