Ok guys, Have had this little problem for quite a while now and some people on here have said that's it a common thing with the cali abs. The sympton is that when breaking, especially at low speed I get feedback through the brake pedal. At first when it happened I thought what the f***!!!! Although it's still there I've come to accept it. Well, happened to be talking to one of the guys at work and turned out that he had a similar problem with his car, except his was an impreza. He said that it was due to one of the calipers seazing up. I told him that my cali also has a pull to the left when beaking but the vibration feedback through the brake pedal was the biggest problem. He said his was a similar thing ie pulling to the side. He got the calipers looked at and one of them had seazed. He said because of this the abs didn't know whether it should be on or off, hence the vibration. He said there should be no tactile feedback to say the abs was working, it just does. Told me once the caliper had been sorted there was no more brake feedback and the abs worked perfectly. Have you guys suffered the same problem and has it been due to one of the calipers seazing?

i had this problem in me old cavalier, never got to the bottom of it, so will be curious if you do mate.

Could well be warped brake disk - especially if the caliper was seized. A warped disk certainly has similar effects to what you have described.

The ABS does have a juddering effect when it is 'on'.

All spanking new disks and juddering effect was there before and after fitting. As stated my mate said when he got the caliper sorted there was no juddering/vibrating or what you want to call it, coming from the brake pedal. Can't remember if my first cali, 2.0 16v had abs. But if it did, there was no problems with that and not even a hint of any juddering. Due into see the mechanic on monday, will have a word with him and see what he can see if anything?

but if the caliper is siezed, then it's going to over heat the disk and cause it too warp very very quickly. Thereby bringing back the juddering. Get the caliper sorted, then change the disks.

I had a problem with the brakes i had a strange pulsing through the pedal when braking, I changed the front and back discs and pads. Turned out one of the back discs was warped. Just make sure everything is cleaned and rust free and plenty of copper grease.[img]/smile.gif[/img]

That's the thing, only found out that the caliper could be the problem, so as yet not done anything about it. When the car goes in on monday will get a good look to see if it is the caliper after all. Obviously will get the mechanic to check out the condition of the disks as well. Hopefully if any of the disks do have a problem it'll only be the one that I think the dodgy caliper is on? Will let you know the outcome later on monday when I get the car back?

Regardless of whether a single brake disk is dodgy, you replace them in pairs.

You do get this if you have grooved disc's as the pad runs over the groove.

Mark1, Can you tell me how many teeth the v6 has on the cog. Looks like I might be going down the route of changing the outer cv joints sooner than I thought?

Well, took the cali into the garage on monday. The mechanic checked everything over and gave it a clean bill of health in the disc and caliper area and also had a look at the outer cv joint and said the teeth were all in good nick and none are missing and that there were no signs of any damage to the cog in way of cracks/splits etc. So the only thing that could have been causing my problems, the abs sensor, was taken of and replaced by a new one. Result - the abs is now working as it should and no feedback whatsoever from the brake pedal. So this clears the disks of any problems. Now all I have to do is get the traction control sorted as the light is still on! (don't think I mentioned that) Hoped that once the abs was sorted the TC problem would go as well?
