Help with lowering springs!!!!
Help with lowering springs!!!!
Found out one of the front springs was bust so had to have it replaced. Decided to go for 40mm lowering kit all round. Just had them fitted this morning and am a bit concerned as they look to low at the front. Garage who fitted them said that they normally expect a gap between the tyre and body of at least two fingers. Well, can't even get one finger in the gap? Can someone please offer some advice? The springs are jamex 40mm part no. 120151. Got 17" alloys with 215/40/r17 tyres on. A bit worrying!:eek:
Just wanted to add that looking at the rears, seems to be no different in height than before I had the springs fitted?

I'm puzzled as to why tyres with less width would make a difference as lowering of the car has made driving impossible and that's before the springs have had time to settle in. The garage is taking the springs off and putting the standard one's back on until I can figure this out. There has been a suggestion that they are the wrong springs either 60mm or not built to take the weight of the V6 lump? Got onto the guys I bought the springs from and they are going to call jamex for advice?

Front springs off and there is a noticable difference in the build from the originals. The jamex ones seem to be less sturdy than the originals ie the diameter of the actual spring looks thicker than the jamex? Also the jamex front springs have the number 100452 on them which is different from the rears 100438 for obvious reasons.

The width of the tyres being 215 isn't a major issue as it also depends on the offset of your wheels. I have 225/35/18 tyres on mine and don't have any major issues.
As for the height, are you sure you have the correct springs? From what your describing, that sounds closer to a 60mm drop than 40mm.

nothing to do with height<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Thats what I'm saying though - I have 225 so slightly wider, and mine are still ok.

from what I read you get round having issues with them by never actually using the car tho lol

Measured the car after putting the original springs back on and there's a gap just under 4cm from top of wheel to arch. So the springs must be wrong as if they're supposed to lower by 40mm and theres already a 20mm drop then that should at least leave a 20mm gap to play with?

LOL - not by choice at the minute as it has an electrical fault that I and no-one else can find. Besides, I have the Skyline to play with at the minute:icon_mrgr
When I did drive it though, I was covering huge mileage and averaged between 30,000 and 35,000 miles each year!

I've got a v6 with 40mm drop and 215/40/17's, i can just about get a finger between the tyre and the wheel arch, can't use the car on any back roads due to excessive rubbing, car is currently sorn at the moment but when i start to use it again will be trying 205/40 to see how they get on. Tyres just catch on the plastic inner arch lining.
