Error 69 (ATS) - Air Temp Sensor

by noelboy » Sun Mar 25, 2007 4:59 pm

Hi,
Ive been getting the engine management light coming on intermittently so this morning I finally got round to doing the paperclip test.
It's come back with error 31 (engine RPM sensor) and error 69 ATS Air Temp Sensor.
Error 31 apparently comes up if you do the test without the engine running but Ive not heard of the "ATS" sensor before.
Ive done some searching and havn't been able to turn up much info.
My petrol consumption has gone right up recently and wondered if this could be to do with it?
Any help would be appreciated.

What engine is it?

On redtops its a sensor in the inlet pipe just after the afm, on turbos its on the left hand side of the top hat (oposite the inlet side), havent a clue where it is on a v6

It could be making your fuel consumption worse because it doesn't know how hot/cold the intake air is

HTH,

Sorry, should have said...
Its a Motronic 2.8 C20XE
Ive checked the Haynes and I now know where it is (where you said it was).
The error relates to low voltage from this sensor so my understanding of that it bad connection to it or dead sensor?
I think I'll try changing it and see what happens....strange that theres not much documented on this sensor though.
Thanks for the reply

yes. the connection or wire is knackered probably. I had the same symptoms before. it was found out be twisted wire. When I reconnected it engine lights disappeared.
