Would turbo spring fit 16v?

Any issues relating to suspension, steering and brakes.

Would turbo spring fit 16v?

by swchoi » Fri Apr 06, 2007 8:59 am

Since height of my car being stressful I want to change the spring. As far as I know Eibac spring for turbo only lowers 25mm and I think it is quite reasonable for the normal road condition. I am just wondering would this fit to 2wd 16v?

I think they fit, but you won't lower 25mm on the 16v, the F28+txb+turbo all together add a lot more weight.
Get ones for your model is best by far.

The turbo and the 16v have the same suspension setup, but if you fit turbo springs on 16v struts the car will sit high, and probably body roll all over the place.

How about V6? Are all calibra have same suspension set up? Body rolls will be minimum with uprate spring anyway, my issue here is the practicality. I have to park my car in multi storey car park every day for work and there is a horrible angle hill. Current set up is bilstein sprint kit set up (i think it is 35 or 40 mm down ) with GTB body kit fitted. I scratch underneah of front lib everyday and I am sick of it. AVO does V6 spring which drops 25mm at a much lower price than eibach. I will probably go for it if it can be fitted without any problem to 16v. What u guys reckon?

V6 spring poundage higher due t the extra weight of the engine. Would say similar with the turbo springs, but probably not quite as much.

Generally, the 16v and 8vs have a higher ride height as standard anyway - V6s and turbos are slightly lower (I forget by how much - 15mm or so?).

So if you buy -25mm springs for a turbo, that'd be -40mm on a 16v (if that makes sense).

Rears are all the same (definitely 16v/V6 anyway).

eibach will only lower a turbo by 25mm because of issues with the tx box/rear diff. they don't take too kindly to being slammed to the gound!

Crow, are you sure, if the turbo is lowered by 25mm then it would be 40mm down in 16v? IF that is the case what I should need is the V6 or Turbo std spring to maintain practical ride height while being stiffer than std 16v.

IIRC, Turbo's and V6's have 20mm lower springs than the 8v and 16v models. I bought a full 35mm setup for my V6 from Courtenay and it's only 15 lower than what it was. But it's 10 times better handling and feels loads stiffer.

Does that help???

Right, that helps, i will just stick to plan for buying 25mm drop AVO spring for V6. Thanks a lot.

be carefull. as mentioned above the car will sit too high as the weight of the Turbo's and V6's are heavier. My setup only cost £230 ish, and that was for everything. Best bet is get on the phone to Courtenay and speak to someone.

I've just listed a turbo set of Eibachs on ebay:<a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CALIBRA-EIBACH-LOWERING-SPRINGS_W0QQitemZ270108211156QQcategoryZ40192QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CALIBRA-EIB...1QQcmdZViewItem</a>
and they are a 40mm drop....even says so on the box.

I have changed springs today with Daewoo Lanos stock spring for temporary use and it fits near perfect. But it sits VERY HIGH. Car became very comfy ride though. I just want uprated spring made for calibra. The low ride height is not my concern any more. Out of interest, has anyone fitted 22/40/18 tyres on front? I am currently on 215/35/18 and it is a bit harsh ride so I want to get 225/40/18tyres instead. Tyre fitter says inner edge of tyre will definately touch the suspension strut when turning. Should I get wheel spacer for that as well? By ther alloy wheel is very common boring BK299.
