snapped bolt in caliper

by rob » Thu Apr 26, 2007 9:24 pm

Righty then Iv just do my front pads but snapped the allan bolt that bolts the calliper to the bracket so I drilled it out and fooked the thread so I re tapped it but the new bolt just keeps going round. Anyway will it be ok for a day till I can get another bracket on.
Recap the bracket is held on by 1 good bolt and 1 that goes round and round.

the torque from stopping the car might well snap the remaining bolt if the vibration knocks the broke one out.. id not even consider driving it

i threadlocked my bolt in, years ago, just redo it if i need to take it apart, never had a problem with it falling out, it just pushes into the hole with no threadlock so its only the threadlock holding it in, it has never failed an mot on it as they cant see it
