Back brakes problem
Ive never done anything to the handbrake bits in the back wheels of a car
i just dont use the handbrake
ive got a bit of a problem with them now though!
when pulling away its started bang, bang, bang from the passenger wheel you can feel it trying to stop and start
its like im putting the handbrake on and off, continuous low volume noise kind of like the metal shield behind the disk is rubbing as well, but its not rubbing
the handbrake cable suddenly feels stronger to move , but still works on both sides
when its doing the banging, if i stop and jack the car up i can turn the wheel passenger side one way (handbrake off) but about half a turn the other till it locks up
then once its driven a few miles its fine again, randomly doing it
any ideas what ive got to do to it
will just removing all the handbrake bits be ok till i get some parts
(if i take it apart and its totaly stuffed inside), or will it make someting else not work?
Im driving it in 2wd at the min so it shouldnt hurt the 4x4?

Sounds like a broken spring or something similar inside the drum
I wouldnt drive it at all as it is, get the drum off and inspect before it destroys the shoes or worse the whole drum/disc assy

ive just had a look at the back, to take the disk off, do i have to remove the caliper or can i just get a way with removing the 2 big bolts and pads from the caliper ( not have to disconect the brake pipe )
then is it just the big screw on the front of the drum were the wheel bolts on that holds it together? (apart from the shoes etc inside)?

I ve had nothing but grief from the back brakes on my cally for 2 years of ownership. The setup of having a drum and shoe as well as a disc is crazy, the backplates seem to be a common problem,as they become rusted and collapse, then the shoes themselves can lie at an angle and rub, which happened to mine.Just got new brakes all round to pass mot 2 weeks ago,i ll see how long they keep working for LOL
