Fitting Eibach springs to turbo - help?

by steve3000 » Sun Jun 10, 2007 9:54 pm

Hello,
Been fitting my new suspension on the LE. Eibach -25mms in place of the original Irmscher -25mms, so shouldn't be much difference in ride height - but noticed the springs themselves look very different at the rear. The spring coils on the old Irmschers didn't touch each other when the car was on the ground, but the first three turns of the Eibach's will definately touch, see pic:

Is this normal for Eibach's?

Take a look at the old springs, they look symmetrical, but the Eibach's are more compressed on one end:

I'm not sure, the old ones (see above) were symmetrical, so I didn't think it mattered. These definately aren't - so there probably is a right way up...

I fitted a new Gmax 40mm suspension kit few weeks back and in the instructions regarding fitment of springs it stated "When fitting springs ensure writing on spring is right way up"

Is there any words or markings on yours ?

Yup, the writing is the right way up - that's exactly what I looked for (you can almost read it in the piccy). No fitting instructions with these though.

I suppose you could try the springs the other way round and have a look at what they look like ?

Ok, thanks guys, I also found some info on the site suggesting Eibachs should go this way up for the rears (ie. big windings at the top), so I've gone ahead finished it all off as is.

So far the rears don't seem to have the same drop as the fronts, but the front's have been on a month, so have probably settled a bit. Hope the rears do the same
