Weird noise/experience

by Twigz » Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:41 pm

No, this isn't about the time I was laying in bed and I got abducted by aliens....

Last week, I had both my cv boots replaced and my passenger side front wheel bearing. I drove my car off from home and as I stopped this rather odd noise and feeling happened; I put on the brakes and they bit, then it felt like something slipped and gragagaga noise came and my brake pedal vibrated.

The noise/feeling doesn't happen all the time, only when braking. It feels like something is slipping and it seems to loose some brake force. Now, considering it's happened in a day and it is only intermittent, I have no idea. Brake pads don't just give up intermittently do they? (And yes I shat myself when it first happened)

My Mechanic thinks it could be a driveshaft but, he did the work in the first place and why the hell is it happening now?:sob:

Any idea's people?

abs is probably kicking in. clean the sensors and toothed rings and try again.

As above the feeling when the abs works when it is not meant to is quite alarming. Can either be a messy sensor or a split abs ring or more likely the dodgy mechanic who did your cv boots has let grease slip all over the sensors/ring.

Thanks guys. Weather permitting I will try and clean them up this weekend and keep you informed on progress. Thank you again

And the results are... both ABS rings very badly corroded... :sob:

It's supprising how badly corroded they can be but still function, get a small wire brush and jack the wheel up and spin it round cleaning it all, then use compressed air or something to blow the iron fillings off the sensor that will no doubt have collected doing so.

Cheers for that, Stu. I will make a note to clean off the sensors. I guess the whole exercie would only be half done if only the rings got cleaned

Is this when you pull off? The ABS does a test which is why it grinds. I usually maneouver with the brake on when pulling off from my house because it's a tight sqeaze getting out and I get the usual grind from the ABS and off I go.....
